AR Try-On
Definition
Augmented Reality (AR) Try-On is a technology that overlays digital representations of products — such as apparel, eyewear, cosmetics, or furniture — onto a live or static image of a customer or their environment, allowing them to visualize how a product will look or fit before purchasing. It combines computer vision, 3D rendering, and real-time tracking to create an interactive, personalized preview experience directly within a mobile app, browser, or in-store kiosk.
For commerce, AR Try-On addresses one of the fundamental friction points of online shopping: uncertainty about fit, color, and appearance. Retailers in fashion, beauty, and home goods have reported meaningful reductions in return rates and improvements in conversion when AR Try-On is available. As mobile hardware and WebAR capabilities have matured, the technology has moved from a novelty feature to a competitive expectation in categories where physical inspection traditionally drove in-store preference.
