Stripe launches agentic commerce products with Link Wallet and WebMCP

Stripe shipped Stripe Checkout for Agents last Monday, built on WebMCP to make human checkouts machine-readable while reducing token burn by 42% and checkout time by 39%. Commerce teams can now enable agent-driven transactions across Claude, Gemini, and other AI systems without custom integrations.

Stripe has accelerated its agentic commerce product roadmap, with Danny Smith, Global Agentic Commerce Solutions Lead at Stripe, discussing the company's latest launches at RetailClub. Stripe Checkout for Agents launched last Monday and is built on WebMCP, making human checkouts machine-readable simultaneously (Retailgentic). The platform reduces token consumption by 42%, tool calls by 38%, and checkout latency by 39% (Retailgentic).

Link Wallet for Agents enables any AI system—Claude, GrokBot, or custom implementations—to execute payments securely by wrapping shared payment tokens as single-use virtual cards capped at budgeted amounts (Retailgentic). Merchants using Stripe's hosted checkout or invoices receive agent-ready checkout automatically with no additional work. Some merchants have already doubled web traffic in three to four months by exposing their catalogs to agent systems through the Agentic Commerce Suite (Retailgentic).

The shift reflects a broader industry challenge: most merchants currently block all bot traffic, yet bots already represented 53% of internet traffic in 2024 (Retailgentic). Stripe is building infrastructure on both sides of agentic transactions, with instant checkout on Google Gemini expected around late October. The company is also developing protocols to distinguish legitimate agent traffic from malicious bots.
