commercetools introduced the Smart Data Modeler, an AI-powered assistant available in both AgenticLift and AI Hub that automates the process of mapping product catalogs for agentic commerce. The tool analyzes a representative sample of a brand's existing catalog (in CSV, XLSX, XLS, or JSON format), identifies structural patterns and attributes, and generates a proposed data model tailored to agentic channel requirements from OpenAI, Stripe Agentic Commerce Suite, or both (commercetools Blog).
Agentic mapping is the process of standardizing product data with required metadata and attributes so that AI shopping platforms can discover and recommend products. Products with missing or misnamed attributes won't be recommended at all, making them invisible to AI platforms. The Smart Data Modeler eliminates manual legwork by flagging gaps—such as multiple catalog fields mapping to one platform attribute, missing mandatory fields, or conflicting source data—and allowing human reviewers to approve, rename, or set default values before transformation (commercetools Blog). With 20% of online shopping estimated to be transacted by AI agents by 2030, retailers cannot afford to ignore agentic commerce, and this automation addresses a critical operational challenge as brands manage hundreds of thousands of variants across multiple data sources and channels (commercetools Blog).
Once approved, the tool can create the product type and attributes and transform the entire catalog within commercetools—or export JSON for external transformation via the HTTP API. This eliminates the traditional nine-step manual mapping process that retailers previously had to repeat each time AI platform requirements changed or new channels were added.
